Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Debts incurred after separation

My husband and I have been separated for 6 months. Will I be responsible for any new debts that he has incurred after the separation? We have not file any legal documents but have a notarized document that outlines our agreement in regards to the kid's visitations, financial obligations and others. Thanks

Re: Debts incurred after separation

You will not be responsible for any debts your husband has incurred before or after your separation, so long as you have not agreed to be responsible or co-signed on loan documents. If your notarized agreement includes any provision by which you agree to make payments on his debts, that would of course obligate you. Otherwise, his debts are his and yours are yours.
