Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
I went through a divorce in the Fall on 2013. My ex husband had all the money. I spent most of the marriage taking care of the kids. We awarded joint custody. I got the house for a year. Unfortunately, during that time I lost 2 jobs and was not able to secure a place to live. I went back to court but was denied the ability to stay in the home with my son. My ex husband put all my stuff on the curb and locked the door. I had to leave the state and come home to my parents. I had no money and no job. I am now working and want my son to live with me. My son feels uncomfortable staying there now since he has a new girlfriend that is always there. He refuses to answer my calls or text about how to resolve this matter and it is a joint situation and we are supposed to communicate. I need help bad. How should I handle this.

It sounds like you might qualify for pro bono (free) or at least reduced fee legal assistance. You should explore this because you clearly need representation by an experienced family law attorney. Contact the bar association in the county where the divorce was entered about this. You will need to file a petition to modify the custody arrangement, and if you were granted full residential custody or are in a future petition (not to be confused with joint legal custody), your ex should be paying child support. Depending on your son's age, he may be able to essentially dictate which parent he can live with.
