Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
Divorce in Maryland, how long does it take?
Im seeking to divorce my wife in Maryland. I understand I can get a legal seperation called a ''limited divorce''. How long does that take to file in court? Also does the ''absolute divorce'' take place on the one year anniversary of the seperation? and since Maryland is a ''no fault'' state, I dont have to give a reason for the divorce, right? Please let me know.

Re: Divorce in Maryland, how long does it take?
If you and your spouse recently separated by consent, you can file for a limited divorce. It does not automatically become final; you have to amend your petition once the separation has lasted for one year. Although MD is a so-called no fault state in that the divorce can be based on the separation, you still must state the grounds for divorce in your complaint--i.e., voluntary separation, non-voluntary separation, desertion, or the other possible grounds. It would be wise to retain an attorney who handles these kinds of cases to represent you, especially if there may be property or child issues involved. Let me know if I can be of assistance.
