Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Divorce Settlement-MD

My ex has been found in contempt for not complying with the settlement agreement. The court will not place him in jail but has attached an additional 10%interest on monies due me. How do you suggest I quickly recover my money....tell me about placing liens on real estate, automobiles and bank and investment accounts.

Re: Divorce Settlement-MD

You will not receive a good answer about placing liens on real estate, automobiles, etc., because collecting on a judgment isn't that simple. Although he may owe you money, he still has rights in collection attempts. It would behoove you to use an attorney. The attorney, typically, would receive a portion of only what is collected as a fee, but there are additional costs associated with garnishments, levies, etc (not attorney charges, but costs charged for the process by the bank or sheriff, etc.). Feel free to contact me.
