Emancipation of a child

I would like to know what the legal age of emancipation of a child is in the state of Maryland? How is such an act done? Who can initiate it?

Re: Emancipation of a child

Generally speaking, a child becomes emancipated at age 18. A child could be considered emancipated for certain purposes (such as receiving child support) before 18 if he/she has full time employment or marries. There is no formal procedure for declaring emancipation in and of itself. One could seek a court order in order to obtain an emancipation determination. This is a proceeding for which you should definitely seek legal assistance. For further information, you can contact me at wagsher @aol.com
