Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Enrolling a Foreign Order

I have a certified copy of my divorce decree that was issued in South Carolina, I want to know exactly how do I go about having it enrolled as a foreign order in the State of Maryland.

Thank you in advance

Re: Enrolling a Foreign Order

Take it to the clerk of the circuit court in your county and they will enroll it if it meets MD criteria. There will be a fee, probably $25. You will then be able to utilize MD courts to enforce or modify any orders contained within the decree if MD has jurisdiction over your ex. But he/she still retains the right to challenge the legality of the decree if there is an issue as to whether he/she was properly under the jurisdiction of the SC court when you filed for divorce.
