Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
family law - being threatened by my sons father
I have a 7 month old son, and the father abandoned us to move to maine in April 2007, and is now threatening to come down to where i live in Maryland and kidnap him with his father, stating he will use his fathers ''grandparent legal rights'' and ''use his father rights''. Currently he is unemployed and does not contribute child support and is residing with his father in Maine. I need some kind of advice for this situation

Rather than father's rights, he should be concerned with father's responsibilities. He has a duty to support the child until the child is an adult. Running off to avoid responsibility is a big problem for him.
Grandparents may petition a court to seek visitation, but the standard is what's best for the child. Under the circumstances, what with the grandparent seemingly colluding on the kidnapping threat, I can't imagine it's in the child's best interests to have visitation with the grandparent. Certainly, the grandparent can't snatch the child. The father can't, for that matter, either.
You may be able to ask a court to grant a protective order. Here's a link to the District Court web site that explains what's involved:

Good luck.

You need to file to establish a custody decision in a court. A complaint needs to be filed and an order of custody obtained.
You may want to file for child support in addition to filing for custody. Contact me to discuss.
