Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

My father left my mother in approximately 1993. They never got a divorce, but had a legal separation agreement stimulating that my father pay for my entire college education plus a certain amount for living expenses. I left college and attended classes at another school for a little while, but plan to return to a better school soon. My mother died almost two years ago, and since the will had never been updated, my father was the heir. Does he still have to pay for my education? The separation agreement didn't stipulate a limit on the number of years of college he had to pay for. Also, I think he didn't pay everything he was supposed to. Can I do anything about that and financially since I would need a lawyer would it be worth it to do anything?

Your father is in all likelihood still required to pay for your college education despite your mother's death. However, until an attorney reads the agreement, I can't give you a definitive answer. For instance, there may be a provision that says you have to continuously remain in school, or that his exposure is limited to a certain age, etc. It would be well worth the expense to have a consultation with an experienced family law attorney who can review the agreement and advise you. Thousands of dollars in expenses could be at stake.
