Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I am looking to file for custody for my 2 yr old daughter I have been her primary caregiver since she was born. I was told I need to speak to a lawyer before I go file the paperwork, why is this? I want to try and recieve sole physical and legal custody.

People handle these matters on their own. However, in most cases, it is better to retain an attorney. At the minimum, consult with an attorney to discuss the facts of your case. Each family law case is different.
