Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I file a motion to get custody of my 16 year old daughter from her stepmother . Her stepmother was served , however she did not respond within the 30 days. What is the next step? Do i need to file another motion?

You should ask for an entry of default against the stepmother and a hearing on your motion. If a hearing has already been scheduled, just be prepared to show up and present your evidence. However, you should be aware that a 16 year old can pretty much dictate where she lives, and if she prefers to stay with her stepmother, even though you have the more direct biological connection, the court will probably grant her wishes. I'm assuming that the father had legal custody and perhaps is no longer in the picture since you didn't mention him, but your daughter continued to reside with her stepmother.
