Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

i filed a divorce petition and my husband didnt respond so i filed a request for default which was denied.how can i request a hearing to get this over with.i asked the court clerk for a form,and they dont have them.what do i do?cant afford an attorney and also can i get a public defender to help?

If your request for default was denied it was probably because you didn't demonstrate that you served your husband with the divorce complaint under the rules. You need to do so by certified mail and file the return receipt, or by a process server who will file an affidavit of service. You can't use a public defender--that's if you are charged with a crime. But if you income qualify, you may get a reduced fee attorney or even a pro bono (free) attorney through your county bar association.
