Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Filing a divorce petition

I filed my divorce petition in the wrong district and then filed a motion to transfer the case to another district. What happens next?

Re: Filing a divorce petition

You will have a wait for the court to respond to your motion to transfer the case. You haven't indicated whether the petition was served on the other party or not, or whether an answer was filed. If no answer was filed, the simplest thing to do would be to withdraw the case in the wrong jurisdiction and file it again in the right one. You probably should find a good family law attorney to represent you to avoid the delays and inconvenience of such errors.
