Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

guardenship

I have a 12 yr old boy staying with us whose mother is unable to provide for him at this time. She has agreed to let him stay but with no legal papers. I have bought his school clothes&supplies.she is being evicted and has no job. She does not want social services to know this then she won`t get any help. I am not sure what to do, she has a alcohol problem and not sure about drugs. This child has been pulled around seeen things a child never should. I feel he is safe here with us and I am willing to care for him. I`m scared if I ask her for legal papers she will take him away. what is the best way to deal with this problem? this child was failing in school, getting in trouble and headed down the wrong road. Since he has been here his grades went up,he`s been in no trouble and doing good. Please head me in the right direction. thank you

Re: guardenship

You need to do something to regularize your situation with this child. You really should not

leave it just hanging. If conditions are as bad as you believe you need to move for a change of

custody. However, do not rely however on answers you get on the web. There are a lot of issues

to consider and your situation needs to be analyzed in depth. Talk to a lawyer, ASAP, who

practices in the family law arena and follow his or her advice. This will cost you some money

but in my opinion you cant afford not to do it.
