Lost job of 13 years. married 18 years husband came home and says he's not happy and has left. it has been 2 weeks. everyday i have asked are you sure this is it. we have a home, 17 year old son and many asessets. well i'm not asking anymore. can i change the locks and put his remaining belongings out. his name is on the house and i am taking care of the 17 year old son. he had no reason to leave i conside it actual desertion- he took some clothes gave no warning or chance to work this out. The way i see it he is going to be paying child support, alimony(4 years), i'm requesting mortgage and health coverage for son and i for at least a year.(i paid it for 13 years).

Re: husband left what responsibilities

Although your son is close to the age when he will no longer be eligible for support, you can definitely seek it an action for divorce. You can also request alimony and a division of property. Since your husband is a co-owner of the house, you really can't use self-help to lock him out, but you can, as part of your divorce action, ask the court for a "use and possession" order, which if granted would give you exclusive possession of the marital home for the time being.
