Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
My husband and I live in Maryland and want to end our marriage. We have been sleeping in separate beds and separate rooms for the past year but cannot afford for one of us to move out at this point. Is there any way for us to have our separation legally recognized by the court despite the fact that we are still in the same house?

You do not have to live in separate houses to be considered living "separate and apart" for purposes of the Maryland divorce statute. The idea is that you should not be sleeping in the same bed, you should not be intimate with your husband (at all), etc. The fact that you live in the same house will NOT hinder your ability to obtain a divorce.
