Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
My husband is in the Miltary and was stationed in Missouri 5 years ago when he filed his divorce. At the time the Mother lived with all four children in Kansas and none of the kids ever lived in Missouri. Missouri was given jurisdiction because that was my husband's residence at the time. My husband transferred from missouri over 4 years ago and now we live in Maryland with one of his daughters (teenager) and the other 3 girls still live with their mother in Kansas. We need to file the official papers to get custody and child support pertaining to the daughter that has been living with us. Can we change jurisdiction to Kansas? That is where most of the children live with their mother. None of the children are from or live in Missouri and my husband hasn't lived there in 5 years. Any help would be appreciated.Or should we change jurisdiction to Maryland, where we live with one of the children?

You should file your case in MD, since that is now where you and the child in question live. There is an interstate compact that pertains to these kinds of cases. Consult an experienced family attorney in your area who can file the necessary papers to get the case before the court.
