Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

individual assets before marriage

I am divorced and have one son. I pay child support and am civil to my ex-wife. Since my divorce I have acquired numerous rental properties and accumulated considerable assets. I am considering marrying next year to my soon to be fiance. She basically has no assets and I would like to know how to protect my assets in case of divorce. I would like to make sure that my son will receive the assets in case of my death, but also my new wife will be provided for with assets we obtain as a new couple. Any help you can suggest is appreciated.

Re: individual assets before marriage

You should speak with an attorney. Title of the property, how and when acquired, and

other matters affect your course of action. A prenuptual agreement appears a likely course of action.

You likely need a last will and testament. Placing property into trust may be a viable option.

You may benefit from more than one approach. I can be reached at (410) 799-9002 or by return e-mail.
