Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I am interested in finding out the formal process for getting child support in Maryland and how long it takes. I live in Baltimore City and the father lives in Baltimore County. Where should I file my paperwork?

The fastest (and cheapest) way to pursue child support is to contact the Maryland Office of Child Support Enforcement in your county. They will pursue child support for you for a one-time administrative fee of $25. They are not the most expeditious, and not the most aggressive, but this is all that they do. If you want the process to move more quickly, you'll need to hire an attorney or try to do this pro se. In either case, the process is commenced with a complaint to establish child support (and perhaps for custody, if that is an issue), and the father needs to be served with the complaint and a summons.
