Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
Joint Legal Custody
Last May I took a hunting course with my son, in September his father had his lawyer send me a letter that I could not take him because we have joint legal custody and he did not agree to it when it came to signing for the hunting license. Isnt this like any other hobby, he didnt have to sign for scouts, or soccer or lacrosse or field trips or anything else. It requires one signature not both - can he tell me I cant take him hunting??

Re: Joint Legal Custody
Without knowing all the facts, it is difficult to say whether such an activity is a matter that relates to physical custody. Your inquiry relates to legal custody and such a decision depends on the welfare of the child, that is whether hunting would be in the child's interest.
Where a child is of an age and/or maturity to attend to hunting, such an activity is acceptable where the child wants to be involved. Outdoor activities require proper parental involvement.
