Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
I have joint legal and physical custody (50% of time) of my two kids with my ex-wife. I live in MD. I need to leave for my home country for an emergency for few months. My ex-wife will take care of kids on my days. Since we both had almost the same income during our divorce we share 50% of kids expenses .I will not have time to go to court and amend the existing agreement and would not prefer to do so as I think this my need to go to my home county is for FY 2013 only. I have told my ex-wife that I will continue to pay kids expenses as I have. How can I make sure that my ex-wife does not take advantage of this and go to court in absence or put me in trouble for not taking care of kids? I dont want to lose the joint custody of my kids on a long term basis.

You need to enter into a temporary modification of custody agreement which clarifies your situation, and which she agrees will not be a basis for seeking a court modification. An experienced family law attorney can help you prepare such an agreement, but first make sure your ex is willing to sign it.
