jurisdiction on an out of state witness
Does the mere swearing in and questioning of a witness (living outside the state) in a civil matter, give the court jurisdiction over that person

Re: jurisdiction on an out of state witness
Once a witness is sworn he is under the judge's control and must remain available for further testimony during that proceeding until released by the judge. His residence is irrelevent. Once the proceeding is over, however, he would have to be resubpoenaed for the next court proceeding. However, if a proceeding is adjourned without being completed, which often happens, the witness remains under subpoena.
