Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Where my kids are staying

My husband left a week ago without notice, he called a day later and told why he left from a private number. We may get calls every other day from the private number wanting to talk to the boys, but not discussing any other matters. (Bills, childcare, or marriage) Now he wants the kids for the weekend, but I dont know where he stays or have a phone number for him. I have filed for a limited divorce and custody of the kids. Do I have a right to know where the kids are staying and a contact number?

Absolutely. Especially if they are young children--you didn't specify. Tell your husband that you won't permit visitation until he provides you with information as to where and under what conditions they will be staying, and that you must be able to contact him while they are on visitation. I hope in your court filing that you also asked for a child support order.

You should consult with a family law attorney and put together a proposal for a separation agreement. You will need contact information for your husband--either an email address, postal address or fax #, so you can send him a proposed agreement. If the two of you are able to work out a comprehensive fair agreement, it will save you a great deal of expense and stress vs. having to do all this through the court system.
