Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Life insurance requirements

My soon to be ex-husband wants me to pay for life insurance on myself and his lawyer says its legal that he would be ''owner'' of the policy. Once the divorce is final, how can they request that I pay for the insurance, demand a specific amount and then claim ownership of the policy?

Re: Life insurance requirements

Traditionally in divorce situations if one spouse is paying alimony or child support to the other, the recipient wants the payor to take out life insurance so there is a continuation of payment if the payor dies. If you're not in that situation, there's no reason that you should take out insurance, especially if it's for his benefit.
