Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
Losses from wedding due to cancellation
After sending out save-the dates and putting deposits on the reception hall, photographer, and videographer, my fiance decided to call off the wedding. Will I be able to get my money back? All or half?

Re: Losses from wedding due to cancellation
A marriage is, legally speaking, nothing more than a contract. You relied on the marriage proposal to begin the planning and paying the deposits. Your reliance entitles you to sue for that money if your fiance refuses to reimburse due to breach of contract. You are responsible, however, to mitigate your damages -- in other words, try to get the money back from any deposits you made. Speak with the people with whom you left deposits first. If they refuse to refund the deposits (all or partial), then demand the money from your fiance. If you are unsuccessful, you can contact an attorney to investigate your options. Call if I can help.
