Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
Lost Custody and do not know where to help!
I have written to you all before on 11/3/99 and now I have another problem that has came about.I recently went to court and lost sole custody of my child to the non custodial parent based off of false testimony and perjury. The master has given me a punishment by letting the child stay with me on visitation for 5 days a week while the other parent now has custody but only has child 2 days every week. There is nothing stating that I cannot move out of state by now I feel limited to what I can do. I truly need some legal advice.

Re: Lost Custody and do not know where to help!
Your letter was unclear regarding exactly what you lost. Since the child still spends the majority of the week with you, I assume you and the other parent now have joint custody, as opposed to him/her having sole custody. It sounds like you did not have legal representation at the custody hearing and now you are paying a price for the unwise decision not to do so.
In regard to your question, undoubtedly the other parent will not stand idly by and allow you to remove the child from the immediate area so as to deprive him/her of contact. He/she will go back to court if you try to do this and get a court order to prevent it. Even at this late stage, if the two of you can work out a reasonable agreement regarding your shared responsibilities and contacts, it would be far preferable to going back to court.
