Re: Marital property

If the items were given to you as a married couple, they are considered marital property and belong to both of you. The source of the gifts (her family vs. your family) is irrelevent. But what often happens in a marital breakup is that one spouse's family will claim the gifts were intended for their family member only, which legally would make it the property of that spouse, even though logic would tell you that items such as you describe were obviously meant to be given to you as a couple, not individually.
