Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I was married to a military man for 11 years. In 2001, he was having an affair and asked for a divorce and married his mistress. I was extremely depressed at the time (didn't get treated until years later) and didn't even think of hiring an attorney. The first draft of our divorce papers had that I would have 50% of his pension, but not the final papers (which I didn't notice). I later remarried as well, but divorced again mostly because of the stress of caring for my son, who is 16 and autistic. I am 45, and it have always been the caretakeer. My son needs 24/7 supervision. His father is about to retire, is there anything I can do about receiving part of the retirement after all this time?

There is probably nothing you can do to obtain part of his retirement after all this time. However, you should consult with a Maryland family law attorney, who will review your divorce documents and help you make a decision about your chances of success if you try and unwind the first divorce. Additionally, you should speak with the Maryland family law attorney about the possibility of claiming social security benefits under your first husband's name.

Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******
