Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Soon to be Married/Marital Property

My fiance and I plan to marry in Nov 04. I close on the purchase of a house next month - Oct 04. The mortgage and title are in my name only. I am the higher salary earner. (He is in the Armed Forces. Soon to be active/deployed to Iraq.) He has credit debt and child support that he must pay. I have no debt and no children.

Do I need a prenuptial agreement so that I won't become responsible for his debt and to protect my income from being considered in a possible increased child support motion?

Re: Soon to be Married/Marital Property

His premarital personal debt and obligations in regard to child support are personal to him and in this regard a prenuptial or pre-marital agreement will not provide additional benefit (this is based on the limited scope of the facts provided in your question).

There, however, may be other reasons to consider a prenuptial agreement. You should speak to an attorney.
