Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Maryland Grandparent Law

I am interested in knowing the current status of Maryland's Grandparent Law. Is it a law, that Grandparents have rights as in ie: California? I have two grandchildren that live in Maryland, and their legal cutodian (father) is refusing visitation of myself the paternal grandmaother. However, the paternal grandparents have court ordered visitation, by a Maryland Court. Shouldn't this be equal for both sets of grandparents?

Re: Maryland Grandparent Law

Under Maryland law, grandparents have a right to visit with their grandchildren, and can petition a court in the jurisdiction where the children reside for visitation privileges. These will invariably be granted unless the court concludes that it would not be in the best interest of the children to have grandparent contact. Incidently, I am assuming you are the maternal grandmother, although you identified yourself as the paternal grandmother in your e-mail. If you would like to discuss this further, you can e-mail me at [email protected] or telephone me at 301 986-4555.
