Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

What is Maryland law pertaining to wage garnishment fo child support?

I had a needle phobia in 1987, when I allegedly fathered a child. I under duress signed papers admitting paternity. I have since overcome my acute phobia in the last 3 years. The court ordered I pay $100 monthly which I have done in good faith. I have experienced unemployment and an on the job injury. These events caused my account to fall into arrears. I had been paying $125 monthly to bring my account current. I took a job with the State. Almost immediatley thereafter my wages have been garnished in the amount of $500 monthly. I have tired to get an answer to this extreme garnishment without success. I was told by child support enforcement that my garnishment can by law only be 25%. What can I do?

You will have to apply to the court that issued the garnishment order to reduce the amount to the appropriate percentage of your disposable wages. The child support enforcement office can explain to you how to do this.
