Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

In Maryland. Married for 20 years. Wife with college degree but has chosen not to work for over 5 years. She decides to walk out of marriage willingly perhaps for another man but not sure. Before walking out she has been well treated all expenses paid and a monthly allowance. She has no cash or investments of her own or in her name. Can she get court to force me (husband) to take care of her financially before the one year seperation period is expired?

She can ask the court for separate maintenance while the suit is pending, but you can defend this on the ground that her educational and perhaps work background qualify her to work and she should be able to support herself. Also, if she left for another man or not due to anything you did, you can argue she caused the breakup of the marriage and therefore should not be entitled to support. However, she will be entitled to share in marital property, which means most property acquired by either of you during the marriage regardless of whose name it's in.
