mate putting me out

after 16 years of me and my mate being together and 4 children he wants me to leave the house and he has been abuse throughtout the 16 years what could i do?

Re: mate putting me out

I assume your use of the term "mate" means you're not married. Even so, unless he owns the house in just his name, he can't put you out. If you are renters, you have as much right to occupy the premises as him. If you are legitimately concerned about him abusing or threatening you or the children, you could go to court and ask for a civil protection order. If you do this and establish at a court hearing that the abuse or threat is real, the judge has the authority to order him out of the premises for up to a year. You can also get a court order for child support if they are his children, and to pay the mortgage or rent as the case may be.
