Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I have a MD Child Support question. I have an established child support case in Maryland and I just received a letter from CSES stating that when my daughter turns 17 the child support enforcement will cease. She will graduate this year and has been accepted to college. Will the other parent still be required to pay child support until she graduates college or is there an age limit.

My sister has the same senerio, same state, different county, in her case though, it states that her case will continue as long as the child continues through college.

The two counties are PG and Charles - is there a difference of when child support ends or does it depend on individual cases.

MD law provides that your child is entitled to support until she turns 18 or graduates from school, which ever comes later. It terminates at age 19 if the child hasn't graduated by then. There is no difference based on county of residence. In your sister's case, if the father has agreed to pay support through college, that would be the only basis on which she could continue to collect.

Many facts come into the question and you have asked two questions at once. I would need to see the support orders as well as review facts for modification. Orders for support beyond age 18 are enforceable in certain instances. Contact me should you or your sibling require legal representation.
