Re: MD vs MO?

You should hire a MO lawyer. MO may or may not be the proper forum to file for divorce. Not being familiar with MO law, I cannot say for sure, but I imagine MO will only take jurisdiction to decide a divorce under certain circumstances. Your wife can't just pick a state and file for divorce there just because she likes it. Were you married there? Did you reside there with her and only recently move to MD?

If MO is the proper place to file, you'll need a MO lawyer to represent you there. If MO isn't the proper place, a MO lawyer will be able to tell you and handle it there.

You will need a lawyer who is admitted to the Missouri state bar. Laws regarding divorce are different in every state, and you will want a lawyer who is knowledgeable about Missouri law. Many lawyers are admitted to the bar in more than one state, but I doubt you would easily find one who practicaes in both Maryland and Missouri. You can find a Missouri family law lawyer through lawguru or other internet sites, including Martindale-Hubbell.
