Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Medical Costs

Ive been with my girlfriend for about a year and shes a very independent person. Ive tried to help her with stuff, but usually I get shot down and in return she tells me she can do it on her own. Shes pregnant and about to give birth. We've had issues and although she lives with me and I pay for everything except her few bills, she now has become irrate and wants to leave. She wants to take our child to California (where her parents live) and make it hard for me to have involvement with the child. She also wants me to now pay for half of any medical bills that shes paid during the pregnancy, even know shes told me in the past she didnt want help. What are my options? Can she take our child to california? Can she take me to court and get half the medical costs after the fact?

Unless you go to court and file for custody after the baby's born (which is probably not realistic), or get an order restraining her from leaving the immmediate area, she's free to go wherever she wants. If she moves to CA, after 6 months she can file for custody and child support out there, and also ask the court to order you to reimburse her for birthing expenses.
