Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Minor Child wants to leave home - Child Support

A 15 year old minor child's parents are separated. Mom has custudy and dad has just been ordered to pay child support. Dad moved in with grandmom, mom is moving to another state, short-term, with other child. Mom and Dad tell 15 year old she can stay home alone, but gas and electric is turned off, so minor will have to pay this bill on her own. 15 year old decides to move in with her older cousin. Mom and Dad say OK. Dad continues to pay child support to mom, which includes support for 15 year old, who won't be living with mom and does not get any help from mom, i.e. 15 year old is on her own. Is there any way for 15 year old to be able to get suppport that dad is paying? Or, shouldn't dad be relieved of requirement to pay for 15 year old, if mom is no longer suppporting her?

Re: Minor Child wants to leave home - Child Support

The child has the right to the support of both parents and the parents have the duty to support her. The older cousin/custodian should seek legal counsel and go to court to try and get a court order requiring the father's support to be sent to him/her and additionally that the mother, who has abandoned the child, be ordered to pay support as well.
