Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Minor Emancipation

I have been court ordered to ensure that my 16+ year old daughter attends joint counseling with a hand picked counselor by the judge and her father (who has been estranged for 3 years). My daughter has absolutely no interest in pursuing this relationship. Can she gain emancipation and how?

Re: Minor Emancipation

It's not likely that a 16 year old still in school and living with a parent can gain emancipation. Apparently the judge who ordered the counseling felt it was important to try and repair the relationship between your daughter and her father. She'll probably have to at least make an effort to participate in the counseling sessions. Then, you could go back to court and she can request through you that court-ordered visitation be terminated, if she's still of this mindset.
