missing child support

My wife was married before and from this relation she has a 14-year-old son.

When she divorced, 10 years ago, the court established a monthly child support to be paid by the father of her son.

Three years ago, she sued her ex husband, in Montgomery County � Rockville � Maryland, because he was 6 years behind the child support payments. This process cost us about US$ 4.000.

The court calculated the amount due from the missing 6 years and ordered him to pay the balance in addition to start paying on a monthly basis the child support determined when the divorce occurred. He never paid the balance established by the court, and in addition to this transgression, during these last three years he missed half of the due monthly payments.

My question is the following: Is there any legal instrument that she can use in order to report him to the court without necessarily going again to a trial, that probably will cost us another bunch of money?

Re: missing child support

Your wife should not need to hire a lawyer to represent her in trying to collect the child support which is due. She should contact the child support enforcement office in Montgomery County. Their job is to enforce child support orders of the court. Their lawyer should handle the matter. They can attach wages for child support, attach any income tax refunds, and suspend a driver's license if a parent does not pay court-ordered child support. If the arrears are reduced to a judgment in your wife's favor, she can then move to enforce the judgment by forcing a sale of his home, car, or any other assets he has.
