Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

After missing a court date to pay part of $8000 child support arrears a writ of body attachment was issued. I can prove that I have not been employed or in the state since before the court date. How possible is getting the writ lifted without paying the full arrears or serving time?

You can try to work out a payment plan with the court that is acceptable to the custodial parent. If you have no income, nor sufficient assets to curtail the arrears, you will have to come up with a plan to find work so your wages can be attached for child support. You should reach out to whomever is representing the custodial parent now--don't wait until the court date.
