Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

moving out of state with my child

My ex and I were not married but we have a child together. We recently setteled out of court and have a custody agreement. I have been offered a better job in California he lives in Pa now and I live in MD. Can I take the job before ammending the custody agreement? will i be able to take my daughter with me? who is responsible for the travel back and forth of the child?

You didn't state what the terms of the custody agreement are, so it's difficult to answer your question. I'll assume you have custody and he has visitation. If the agreement didn't impose a geographic restriction on where you could live, you're free to move to CA. However, if the agreement provided for frequent visitation, your ex will probably not be too happy. You can offer to pay for transporting your daughter back to PA for visits, but obviously they'll be less frequent given the distance. Perhaps you can work it out by offering him an extended summer visitation if that's feasible. Otherwise he may go back to court to seek a different arrangement.
