Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Notice to employ new counsel

My counsel quit my child custody case. I received a notice from the court to seek new counsel or risk a nonsuit or judgment. Can I simply withdraw my request for custody and start over at a later date with new counsel?

Re: Notice to employ new counsel

If you choose not to challenge your ex's claim for custody, he/she will be awarded it. If you decide to mount a challenge down the road, he/she will have already established a custodial relationship with the children and it will be that much harder for you, unless the custodial relationship is proving to be detrimental to the children. Judges are reluctant to change custody after it is awarded unless there is a compelling reason to do so.
