Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Paternity

What are a mans' paternity rights under Maryland law? Is there a time limitation for submittting to a blood test, once papers have been signed admitting paternity?

Re: Paternity

You are entitled to certain parental rights, but also must assume parental responsibilities. If you admit paternity in a legal proceeding, you can receive visitation privileges with your child. However, the court will order you to start paying child support. In Maryland, the amount of support will be based upon your income and that of the mother. If you deny paternity, a blood test can be ordered and is usually conclusive as to the relationship between the suspected father and the child. There is no time limit for the blood test.

Re: Paternity

I think most of us are going to need a bit more information

before answering your questions. What rights do you want?

Have you been involved in the child's life? How

old is the child? When did you first find out the

child was yours? Have you paid any kind of support?

If you feel that those are too personal for the web

feel free to write to me directly and I will take

a stab at helping you out.
