proof of adoption

i am recently married and my husband has a 13 year old daughter whom his parents,supposedly adopted. however, i have my doubts. he and the birth mother signed temporary custody papers, which from his parents lawyer. how can temporary custody go to permanent adoptin? my husband and the bitth mom never went to court, were never notified by the courts etc. the only proof they have for this so called adoption, is the word of his mom. she prevents he and the birth mom to have any contact etc. with their child. how can we find out if his daugher is really adopted? thanks

You can check the court records in the circuit court for your county to see if there is a legal proceeding for the adoption.
