Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Proving mental incapacity

My wife is severely depressed to the point that she stays drunk while taking anti-depressants and sleeping pills. She drinks and sleeps and cries. She is totally out of control and can't be trusted with money or alone. If I don't give her money she disrupts my business which I operate out of my house. I need to get her into inpatient therapy but she won't sober up long enough to agree. I fear that she is slowly committing suicide. What can I do to get her help?

Re: Proving mental incapacity

Your situation is difficult. The physicians who are prescribing the medication can be involved. It takes the attestation of two physicians to have someone committed involuntarily unless they are at risk or danger to themself in an immediate sense and then the police may be of assistance. Other avenues may exist for you to seek help for your wife. Contact an attorney.
