Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Have a question on common law break-ups. I have been in a relationship with a Senator and have been promised marriage and was advised to return to school full-time after I got unemployed, and also has been housed in an apartment with all my expenses taken cared off. Due to some financial situation, I feel there is a sudden abandonment and zero communication from the other party involved and would appreciate any legal advise I can receive on rights in this situation. Many thanks in advance.

Maryland does not allow the creation of a common law marriage, a relationship in which a couple lives together but have not participated in a lawful ceremony. In Maryland, a couple cannot acquire marital rights and responsibilities by living together for a particular period of time. As such, if you are not legally married in Georgia, you are nothing more than boyfriend/girlfriend.

Best of luck.*******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.********
