Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
Question about divorce papers
I have received divorce papers and don't understand one of the lines. Please explain what '' That the Plaintiff be granted such other and further relief as the nature of his cause may require?''

Re: Question about divorce papers
That is boilerplate language addressing any other issues that may arise in the divorce. I'm not sure what was alleged in the complaint for divorce, but that phrase is a catch-all. For more info., or if you need counsel call (248)851-3171.

It just means that it requests that the judge be allowed to do whatever would be fair. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
Re: Question about divorce papers
It is sort of a catch all phrase. It asks for logical relief from the items asked for above that line. I hope you are not planning on representing your self in a divorce action. You will regret it years later. For example, in a divorce action are you aware of your rights under "use and possession"? Do you know what debts of your husband you might not be responsible for? If there are children, do you know how to calculate the child support guidelines? If not, BEFORE you answer the Petition for Divorce, contact an experienced divorce lawyer, like myself.
