Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
I recently had a paternity case filed against me, took the dna test, and found to be the father. I have had no contact with the child because the child's mother's fiance is known as 'Daddy' and it wasn't until recently she decided to tell me. The child is almost 2. I am fine with that. However, the mother is threatening me, that she will file for visitation on the child's behalf to be made by court to see my other child. She thinks since they are half siblings she has a right to make me and my other child's mother bring the child to her home for a playdate! I think this is ridiculous, but is this possible? I do not have custody of my older child, the mother does. She was not happy to hear that the other child's mother is demanding this and threatening both of us with court.

You need to defend against the case whether you want or do no want paternity established. Your question presents a number of issues and it would be beneficial to discuss your legal goals with an attorney. The child's mother (the one bringing the paternity case) has no right to force any access whatsoever to a half sibling with whom she has no direct parental association. This being said, there are numerous matters involved with the case being filed against you such as child custody, child support, establishing paternity and addressing the harassment that appears to be practiced against your second younger child and mother. Call me to discuss your case.
