Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
Re-Marriage
In my divorce it says that I will pay my ex-wifes mortgage until my youngest child is 18.I have no problem with this. However my agreement also says if we agree to sell the current house I am still obligated to pay the mortgage amount on her new house or give her an outright cash settlement equal to what I would of paid had she stayed in the house until said child was 18. This works out $120,000 ($900 month X 11 years)When I agreed to this she was unemployed and uninvolved. Now she has employment and is getting remarried. She and her new husband informed me that they plan on getting me to pay the 900 a month for the next 11 years or taking the cash. My question- do I have any recourse in this matter? Does her re-marriage affect anything or do I really have to pay her and her new husbands mortgage, on their house, until my youngest is 18? Also, the new man lives in the house I currently pay on, rent free. Is this legal?

Re: Re-Marriage
Alimony is rehabilitative. This means that once the ex-spouse is back on her feet, you should be able to modify the order to reflect this. Expect your child support payments to continue, if any.
