when representing yourself can you subpoena information from places and people as a lawyer would?

A person representing themself is entitled to use, and is also bound by, the same rules and procedures that lawyers follow in conducting litigation. You can obtain subpoenas from the clerk of the court to serve on records custodians or witnesses, but you must complete them correctly and follow the rules as far as serving them on the persons or institutions named in the subpoenas.
