Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
I am currently separated and we have already gone to court for custody and visitation and settled that. My question is, my (ex) husband only lives 5 hours away in Houston,TX and i live in New Orleans, LA and he says that i should meet him halfway and pay for half the visitation. Well we went to court for all this in Maryland so i'm wondering what exactly does "visitation" mean in Maryland? Since our daughter is only 2 can she go out of state at such a young age? Or does he have to come here for his time with her?

Visitation means the time the noncustodial parent spends with the child. There is no hard rule on where this has to take place, and if there is a dispute between the parties, the court will have to settle it. Of course, the younger the child, the more likely the Court might be to require it to take place in the city where the child lives. As for who pays the costs, again a matter of negotiation. It sounds like you both moved from MD after the separation, in which case some cost sharing would be appropriate, unless there is a significant income disparity.
